Join the Pop Brixton Steering Group!

Since before the doors of Pop Brixton were opened, the people who run it have met up regularly with a steering group made up of local representatives to talk about the project and hear their thoughts on what is happening. We're now asking for new people to join this group, so we can get fresh ideas and advice from a wider network of local people.
If you want to share your opinion on Pop Brixton, if you have ideas about how we could improve the project, and if you would like the chance to help shape its future, please apply.
People who join the steering group will attend regular meetings, where they will hear detailed updates on the project, and be able to give their input into our plans. The steering group is there to help us make sure that Pop Brixton achieves its social objectives, and connect the project with the right people and organisations in the community.
One of the main responsibilities will be deciding who gets the subsidised spaces available. 20% of our units are offered at heavily discounted rates to social enterprises and new start-ups from the local area, and the steering group will help decide which applicants get to move in.

Who will be in the steering group?
We want to make sure the steering group represents the interests of as many people in the local community as possible, so as well as the Pop Brixton management team and Lambeth Councillors and officers, we are looking for the following members to join the group:
1 Brixton resident
1 Local business owner
1 Pop Brixton tenant member
1 Local arts organisation
1 Local social enterprise or charity
1 Local youth representative (Lambeth resident aged 16-24)
1 Local community organisation
The people who join the group will attend regular meetings, with a two hour session hosted every other month. There will also be other tasks including reading and reviewing key documents, and spending time speaking with other people in the community about the project.
How to Apply
If you are interested in joining the steering group, you can put yourself forward by completing an online application. You'll also have to provide two references who can support your application. Once you've made the online application, you'll be invited to meet with our team and Lambeth Council to discuss the role and responsibilities.
We'll be deciding who joins the steering group based on the following factors:
Locality: How close do they live or work in relation to the site
Ethos: Do they understand the Pop Brixton ethos and are they committed to helping the project have a positive impact in the community?
Commitment: Are they able to commit the time required to join the group?
Experience: Do they have relevant experience of participating in similar groups?
Applications are open now, and you can apply online at https://makeshift1.typeform.com/to/mzY3ak
The deadline for application will be Sunday 25th September. After this deadline, we will be arranging meetings with those who applied and the new steering group's first meeting will be in early October.

Councillor Matt Parr
Labour member for Coldharbour ward
